Gledam gledan(a)

U Nizozemskoj je zavrsila School For New Dance Development (SNDO), kao i Dance Unlimited (sada Amsteram Masters of Choreography) 2004. Radovi uključuju performans s odsutnom izvođačicom To sam ja, ali više nisam tu (It’s Me But I’m No Longer There) (2004), izvedbu za tijelo promatrano s dvije kamere Kako se umnožiti (Ways To Multiply Yourself) (2005), apsurdni triler performans  Mrtva priroda s muškarcem i ženom (Still Life With Man And Woman) (2006) temeljen na Antonionijevom filmu  Povećanje (Blow Up), Proricanje budućnosti (Telling Future) (2007) performansi u suradnji s vremenom, Ništa nas ne smije iznenaditi (Nothing Can Surprise Us) (2008), performans uvježbavanja scenarija katastrofa iz raznih kult filmova, te Početak. Sredina. Kraj (Beginning Middle End) (2009), triptih u suradnji s J. Willms, M. Dan i M. Pinchbeck.

Rad je predstavljen u solo i grupnih izlozbama (GAM | Obrist Gingold Gallery/Essen, Kunsthalle Vienna- project space/Vienna, W139 Basement/Amsterdam, Intrusion/New York City, Galerie5020/Salzburg, te drugdje), kao i na media festivalima i festivalima video umjetnosti (BackUP/Weimar, EMAF/Osnabrück, Almost Cinema/International Filmfestval Ghent, te drugdje).

Center for Drama Art invites you to join the workshop in the framework of the project Absent Interfaces

Andrea Božić & Julia Willms

Watching Being Watched

14.-18.12.2009. 10:00-16:00 at the net.culture club mama, Preradovićeva 18, Zagreb

This interdisciplinary workshop will focus on construction of spatial conditions and the effect of these conditions on the sense of presence within them. We will look into the body as an integral part of the space and its setup and approach composition from this perspective. We will work with the architectural, audio-visual and physical properties of space and explore the perceptual, affectual and political repercusions of this. We will choreograph theatrical and cinematic, bodies and images, time now and time past, space here and the space elsewhere, pre-recorded and live, present and absent. We will set up a lab-like environment and attempt to reinvent our space via a choreography of gaze. What do we see? How can we see differently? We will depart from a proposal from our own artistic practice and encourage the participants to bring in their own interests and projects with them, as well as their own technology they might use in their practice in any form (video and photo cameras, laptops, sound recorders, or anything else they consider their tool). The workshop will be in English.

Andrea Božić is a Croatian choreographer based in Amsterdam. In Croatia, she studied modern dance and earned a degree in Comparative Literature and English. In the Netherlands, she graduated from the School for New Dance Development and Dance Unlimited (now Amsterdam Masters of Choreography) in 2004. She makes interdisciplinary performance work collaborating since 2005 with video artist Julia Willms and music composer Robert Pravda. The performances, installations and actions propose unorthodox strategies of viewing and deal with the nature of reality and its perception. The works include a performance with an absent performer It’s Me But I’m No Longer There (2004), a performance for a body viewed by two cameras Ways To Multiply Yourself (2005), an absurd suspense thriller performance  Still Life With Man And Woman (2006) based on Antonioni’s Blow UpTelling Future (2007) performances in collaboration with the weather,  Nothing Can Surprise Us (2008), a performance rehearsing catastrophy scenarios from cult movies and Beginning Middle End (2009) a collaborative triptich. Her work is produced by the Frascati, Amsterdam and tours to many international festivals and houses (ImPulsTanz, iDANS. Springdance, Plateaux, Temps d’Images, a.o.). Since September 2009, she is artist in residence at the ICK Amsterdam / Emio Greco | PC for the upcoming two years.

Julia Willms is a German visual artist based in Vienna and Amsterdam. She studied Visual Communications at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht and Media Art at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna. She makes video installations (often site specific) for the borderlines of spaces and architectual environments, photo collages as well as installations and drawings. Her works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions (GAM | Obrist Gingold Gallery/Essen, Kunsthalle Vienna- project space/Vienna, W139 Basement/Amsterdam, Intrusion/New York City, Galerie5020/Salzburg, a.o.) as well as in media and video art festivals (BackUP/Weimar, EMAF/Osnabrück, Almost Cinema/International Filmfestval Ghent, a.o.). She also collaborates on performance projects with sound artists, performers, composers and choreographers, with an intense ongoing collaboration with choreographer Andrea Božić.
